I Once Loved A Sailor
03:53
|
|||
I loved a sailor, a sailor loved me, he'd sail every night to my home
he was not a sailor who traveled by sea or over the white briny foam
he owned an airship and sailed upon high, just like a bird on the wing
whenever the shadows of evening drew nigh, he'd fly to my window and sing...
"come take a trip in my airship! come take a sail 'round the stars!
come take a ride out to Venus, come take a spin around Mars
no-one to see when we're kissing, no-one to know if we spoon
come take a trip in my airship and we'll visit the Man In The Moon!"
one night while sailing up over the sky out in the wide Milky Way,
while watching the comets and watching the clouds, he asked me if i'd name the day
and beneath the Big Dipper I gave him my heart - the stars shone on our honeymoon
we promised each other that we'd never part, and I still remember the tune
when he sang
"come take a trip in my airship! come take a sail 'round the stars!
come take a ride out to Venus, come take a spin around Mars
no-one to see when we're kissing, no-one to know if we spoon
come take a trip in my airship and we'll visit the Man In The Moon!"

Hypothesis
01:42
|
|||
the night was falling quickly when we stopped under the bridge
after trading our life stories in the park
I sat there next to you trying to work up the nerve
to take a wild shot in the dark
and you said "do you wanna test your hypothesis
that us queers are the only ones who know how to be quiet when we kiss?"
a year and two weeks later, almost exactly to the hour,
I called you up and you said things had changed
we learned so much about each other and ourselves
but it was best for us to go our separate ways
and I think - do I wanna test my hypothesis
that I'll be fine without you?
I just hope you don't regret this down the road
but I guess the moment's come for me to go

Augusta By Dawn
03:50
|
|||
smoke behind me, the night around me,
I found my way out the final closing door
every spark of myself I gave you
left my friends, but you always wanted more and more
running northward, back roads winding
you'll no longer hold me down - I'm bound for another town
pressing forward, no rewinding
not a thing left to my name, ashes steaming in the rain
I burned it all down - the life you wanted -
your picket fence was just a whitewashed cage, no home
you said we'd heal together, that this time you really meant it
but I sent it up in flames, so you can heal alone
running northward, back roads winding
not a thing left to my name, ashes steaming in the rain
miles stretch away behind me before you even know I'm gone
I'll be in Augusta by dawn

So Young
02:55
|
|||
underneath the summer sun
when we met we were so young
delicate and small and low
as we watched each other grow
overshadowed from our birth
we grew tall but without pride
curving over to the side
we could not be what we were
worms swarmed up from underground
tried to break us, make us rot
eat us from the inside out
I broke free but you could not
underneath the summer sun
when you left we were so young

into the mountains my true love did roam
for to seek out a place of our own
I promised her I'd follow closely behind
so before the sun rises I'll be gone
and it's farewell to parents who gave me life
raising their daughter the way they saw fit
but no husband I'll take, I'll be no man's wife
with my love I'll live
come evening tomorrow beyond the next ridge
on that distant and lonely hillside
my true love will meet me and we'll slip away
to the place that she found for us we'll fly
and out there in the pines we will build our home
living each day by the strength of our hands
by the sky overhead and the earth below
answering to no man
into the mountains my true love did roam
for to seek out a place of our own
for her like no other my tender heart sings
and where she goes, then I will follow
